We’ve been sharing stories about the McBarge for a few years now. This relic was moored in False Creek serving up burgers to Expo86 goers nearly 30 years ago and has been sitting derelict ever since. Across from Deep Cove, you’ve likely spotted it and wondered what the heck the story was, and when it was simply going to sink and become only a memory. Well, today CBC published the news that a $4.5m renovation is in the cards for it!

Twitter has been abuzz as they started towing the thing up the Fraser River earlier this morning, on its way to being renovated and turned into some yet-to-be-revealed “attraction”. Mark Reid tweeted this video of it on the move…

And Farrah Merali has been live tweeting its progress as she works on the story for CBC. Here’s the McBarge’s owner watching it cruise by…

They spruced it up with a power wash and put a “History in the Making” banner on the front of it…

The future of the McBarge remains to be seen/unveiled but one thing is certain: anything would be better than it remaining where it was and seeing a watery grave!
