Overflow #002, hosted by the Vancouver Chiptune Society, will include special guests like Mega Ran (Phoenix, Arizona), Sammus (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Together We Are Robots (Calgary, Alberta), as well as local producers Freaky DNA and UNICODE. Visuals will be provided by Vectrola and alterus with additional music in between sets curated by Bitcouver Chiptune Podcast.
The show will also function as a pre-party for Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle, a gaming festival occurring the following weekend.
Chiptune musician and chief curator of the Overflow Series, Bryan Chan (or bryface) says, “we’re really committed to showcasing the musical diversity that’s possible in chip music.” Their first show had a jazz and metal theme in its lineup and their second show had an underground techno/house vibe. “This next show will probably be our diverse yet; not just with Mega Ran and Sammus representing the hip-hop/nerdcore side of things, but with Together We Are Robots from Alberta, who sings gravelly, ear-catching, dive-bar-style rock vocals over electric guitar, game boys or other devices […] Our local artists, Freaky DNA and UNICODE, will be performing chip music that intersects with funk and house genres respectively. So yeah – fresh jams of all types abound.”
