One person dead in small plane crash east of Vancouver

One person died and another was injured in a small plane crash near Mission Monday evening.

Just before 6 p.m., a single-engine Cessna 170 crashed on an abandoned air strip near the north end of Stave Lake, outside of Mission in the Fraser Valley.

Mission RCMP officers attended the scene with the the help of Mission Search and Rescue crews, as there was no road access to the crash site.

“When our officers arrived at the crash scene, they found a 21-year-old woman had been injured and a 66-year-old woman, who had died,” Sgt. Chris Robinson said.

“The injured woman was transported to a larger area hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries.”

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
