I like to think Vancouverites don't drive as much as alot of other people do in other places in North America. A two hour commute is not a regular thing here for most, and the thought of driving for 5 hours for a weekend trip seems like alot. People have told me tales of driving two hours in LA to get to a Whole Foods.
Amtrak now offers regular service to Washington and Oregon. I still think it takes the same amount of time but I'm sure it's alot more scenic and relaxing. Traveling across Canada via train is one of my dreams and this might be a bit of a taster for now....
I know this isn't portlandisawesome.com but it's a wonderful town and I'm happy it's going to be that much easier to get there from Vancouver...and to those across the border.... check us out!
