"the answer is no" Jeff Hamada

Jeff Hamada is a small Japanese artist working out of Vancouver, BC. He was recently selected as one of 100 artists to collaborate with Converse and Product(RED) to celebrate Converse's 100th year anniversary. He currently freelances as a graphic designer, and runs the popular art site Booooooom.com

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PRACTICING ARTIST FOR, AND DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL AND WHERE ?

I got a Fine Arts Diploma from Langara College and then a Bachelors of Media Arts from Emily Carr. I only starting putting my personal work out there this year.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN VANCOUVER FOR ?

I've lived here my whole life, my first job was at the very first McDonalds in Canada (#3 Road, Richmond) when I was 14. I've been working as a designer for about three years.

WHAT MEDIUMS DO YOU WORK IN ?

Lately it's been all pencil crayons.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE GROUP EXHIBITIONS AND SOLO EXHIBITIONS YOU HAVE BEEN APART OF ? AND OR PROJECTS ?

I was just a part of the Art&Sole show here at El Kartel and I'm also showing in Toronto as part of show put on by The Block Magazine + 55DSL.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DO YOUR WORK ?

Conversations I overhear, movies I watch. Humor mostly. I've always felt a bit nervous talking about, and trying to critique, "serious" art. When there's humor in something I find I'm a lot more confident that I "get it".

HOW LONG HAS BOOOOOOOM BEEN AROUND AND HOW WAS IT CONCEIVED ?

Booooooom.com has been around a little over a year. It really just started out as my own personal blog but I got bored of talking about myself pretty quick. After a month or so I started really focusing on other artists whose work I liked, and began actively hunting for people I'd never heard of. The popularity of the site now is still a bit surreal.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON AND FOR THE FUTURE ?

I am organizing a bunch of collaborative projects that will run on Booooooom (we are just finishing a huge "Where The Wild Things Are" fort-building project) and I'm slowly working on a children's book.
