Jamie Currie has been a resident of Vancouver a couple times over the years. The first time it was to get training at VFS after his Bachelor of Fine arts at NSCAD and a stint in Philly. The second time, Vancouver drew him back once he spent a few years in California and Toronto. His eye for combining visuals, type and color are impeccable, in his professional and personal work.

The Proof

1. The tools of the trade on my desk at work.

2. Art & design books, games, DVDs, stacks of past print design projects.

3. Skiing in Whistler!

4. A screen I designed for Skate 2, translated into Japanese.

5. My walk to work.

6. A huge, rolling ghetto blaster my pals and I built for the Red Bull Flugtag (or 'Flying Day') contest back in summer 2006.

7. Some of the decks I've collected including a signed Natas Kaupas Element re-issue (with his classic panther graphic). He signed his name and scribbled the words 'Banana Banana'!

8. A pile of hand-printed lithographs, books and screen prints from the olden days.

The Questions

What neighborhood do you live in?

I live in downtown Vancouver with my fiance, near the seawall and Stanley Park.

What do you do and where?

I'm a graphic designer/interface designer at EA Black Box. I started out in fine art focusing on printmaking & drawing, eventually buying a Mac and getting into Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. This lead me into graphic design, web & Flash design, book design and typography. I then spent 4 years or so doing print and web design work. Nowadays I'm designing mostly for the screen. I feel very lucky to work with and learn from a group of smart, talented people each day in the games business.

What are you working on?

I'm currently working on 'Skate 3' (an upcoming skateboarding game for Xbox 360 and PS 3). Along with 2 other designers, we create all of the 2D graphic design and user-interface screens & elements in the game.

Where can we find your work?

I have done some magazine ads for different brands in the past, freelance print & web design, and a stack of different catalogs and other print collateral for Element Skateboards and Salomon Sports. More recent work can be seen in any of the three 'Skate' games, and in the older 'SSX On Tour' snowboarding video game.

Also which websites would you like mentioned?

I try to update my website boundingbox.net (when I can find the time!). Also check out skate.ea.com the official website of the Skate video game series.
