FINN SLOUGH

I grew up in Richmond, Steveston actually, and every time I go back, it's always different. The Canada Line, the Casino...and some stuff is just plain gone too....like the cannery..man I miss the smell of rotting fish on a hot summer day.

I grew up in Richmond, Steveston actually, and every time I go back, it's always different.  The Canada Line, the Casino...and some stuff is just plain gone too....like the cannery..man I miss the smell of rotting fish on a hot summer day.

The one place though that has stayed the same through my lifetime, and a whole lot more, is Finn Slough.  Finn Slough is located at the south end of Richmond near number 4. Rd. and the Dyke.  It's a small fishing village built by Finnish settlers in the late 1800's.  Some of the houses have been upgraded over the years, but it's pretty close to how it was when the settlers first started propping up stilts in the Fraser to put their homes on.

When I think of Vancouver and it's suburbs, we're one big rolling stone aren't we.....hardly anything stays the same, and I love it for that.  The change is so constant that I pretty much forget about it, that is, until you see something like this.
