"ART OF CRAFT"AT THE MUSEUM OF VANCOUVER (THE MOV)

Yet another well executed, thought-and-conversation-provoking exhibit is launching tomorrow at the Museum Of Vancouver. Or, that is, the MOV to those who know it and love it as we do.

Yet another well executed, thought-and-conversation-provoking exhibit is launching tomorrow at the Museum Of Vancouver. Or, that is, the MOV to those who know it and love it as we do. You might remember our coverage of their Velo-City and Ravishing Beasts exhibits of previous months, this time it's Art Of Craft and it's a mix of Canadian and Korean crafters ("crafters" is a word, right?) on display, in three parts.

The first part, consisting of work from Canadians, was originally shown in the Republic of Korea as a part of their Craft Biennale of 2009, where Canada was featured. The reason why the show is made up of only Korean and Canadian crafters is that the Museum extended the olive branch to Korea to show some of their folks' best work while traveling the "best of" the Biennale pieces. Here are some of them...

This piece is a bit of a... um... take on the Hudson's Bay Company and their history in the fur trade... and those are real beaver skulls! I'll leave the rest of the piece a mystery that you can see for yourself.

There's a film you can sit and watch halfway through your walk through the exhibit...

Then into the Korean crafters, amazing stuff...

The exhibit is being presented in conjunction with the Cultural Olympiad. Check the official MOV site for info HERE.

And don't forget to check THIS out as well.
