Opening Reception: Tue, Feb 16 7-9pm

Leigh Square Community Arts Village

2253 Leigh Square, Port Coquitlam

FREE ADMISSION. Open Daily except for statutory holidays.

Sport Re-imagined is a group exhibition showcasing artists whose work challenges, re-imagines, and reinterprets sport and the paraphernalia and constructs that surround it. Artists ask the viewer to envision familiar objects with a new perspective: robots made of bicycle parts, skis transformed into furniture, tents and rugby shirts altered into couture dresses or skateboard decks that look like abstract paintings. Other works emphasize the physical and bodily exertion of sport; the potential energy in our bones and muscles. It celebrates Spirit Week in Port Coquitlam and Canada’s Winter Games. Featuring works from the following artists:

Roger Allen • Noah Bowman • Rainer Daniels • Ian Freemantle • Steve Mitchell • Gillian McQuade • Charles O’Neil • Kevin Priebe • Eric Tryon • Angelika Werth • West Coast Calligraphy Club members.

Opening Reception on February 16th will also feature the annual Celebration of Port Coquitlam’s Rising Stars, an official gathering commemorating the efforts of young athletes and artists pushing the boundaries. The exhibition runs from January 21 through March 21.

The Leigh Square Community Arts Village is dedicated to encouraging and facilitating community development through arts, culture and heritage by creating a visible presence for community cultural activities within Port Coquitlam and enlivening the downtown core.
