The Celluloid Social Club meets one Wednesday a month at the Anza Club and besides being a great place to learn about all the cinematic loveliness happening in Vancouver, it's also a prime spot for singletons to meet and hook up, according to The Georgia Straight. Is there a better way to judge a potential mate than by their taste in movies? I think not.

Last Wednesday the Club had one of their best evenings ever, with nearly 200 people showing up to see locally-produced short films and hear from three of Vancouver's best and brightest, including costume designer Monique Prudhomme (currently nominated for an Academy Award Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus), local lawyer David Searce (co-writer of Tom Ford's A Single Man, for which actor Colin Firth is nominated as Best Actor), and visual effects supervisor Jon Cowley (District 9, nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Visual Effects), among others.

The attractively hip crowd (including co-founder and Jason Bateman doppelgangar Paul Armstrong and local Twilight: Eclipse actress Jodelle Ferland) was treated to more than a few laughs, thought-provoking moments from several shorts, as well as lots of information about up-coming film festivals and public screenings throughout the city.

Information about March's meeting is coming soon, so stay tuned.
