The Proof - Rebecca Dolen

Rebecca Dolen is a talented lady. She went to art school, she’s been around, she’s got a mean cat, no big deal. Five years ago Rebecca and her good friend Brandy Fedoruk gave birth to a big rectangle shaped baby called The Regional Assembly of Text.

Rebecca Dolen is a talented lady. She went to art school, she’s been around, she’s got a mean cat, no big deal. Five years ago Rebecca and her good friend Brandy Fedoruk gave birth to a big rectangle shaped baby called The Regional Assembly of Text. It’s a store on Main street, and over the years it’s been growing at a slow and steady pace, working hard to keep Rebecca and Brandy in new shoes.

The Proof

1.    Morning coffee ritual. Italian stovetop, JJ Bean Nero espresso, frothy milk, and a dash of cinnamon.

2.    Kitchen table. Lots of eating happens here.

3.    My mean cat on my desk at home. On good days magic happens here.

4.    Sketchbook and Pilot G-Tec C4, my very best drawing pen.

5.    A page from within above sketchbook.

6.    My beloved bike, I’d be walkin without it. Built for me by talented friend Stu Hughes.

7.    The big ugly building that holds our pretty little store.

8.    Our collection of typewriters ready for our monthly Letter Writing Club.

The Questions

What do you do and where?

I am co-founder, partial president and half boss of The Regional Assembly of Text. I design cards and the like. I am very friendly to people, then I take their money and they take my creations home with them. It is very fun. I do some drawing on the side and sometimes people like them and put them on posters and inside

magazines.

What neighborhood do you live in?

Commercial Drive baby, literally. If you walk down Commercial I will see you from my apartment.

What are you working on?

We at The Regional Assembly of Text are constantly working on new card designs and product ideas for occasions that aren’t for another 3 to 6 months.  At the moment it’s mothers day. Also, expanding my computer skills beyond the 5 tools I know how to use in Photoshop is always on my to do list. I’m also trying to pull a web site together for my own illustrations and drawings, just for fun. And always drawing, always.

Where can we find your work?

At The Regional Assembly of Text 3934 Main Street, as well as on the card shelves of 46 little stationery stores around the continent, and overseas.  On our website. On my youtube, where I’ve made some of my drawings move.  Also on Perro Verlag Books by Artists, who recently published my sketchbook.
