A still from “Sad Bear”

On Saturday, March 27th the best of the best of Vancouver's indie filmmakers celebrated creativity and craft at the 11th annual Crazy8s Gala Screening, held at the always glamorous Vogue theatre and hosted by Dan for Mayor's Fred Ewanuick.

Vancouverites can be a tough crowd, but the  full-to-capacity audience's overwhelmingly positive reaction to each and every one of these amazing shorts was  truly a testament to the wealth of talent in the city. The shorts included stories ranging from the antagonistic relationship between a wholly anthropomorphized  feline and his owner's new boyfriend (Cat vs Man), an awesomely ambitious musical skewering of tweendom (The Education of Wendy Wisconsin), a giant bear that is the Grim Reaper of nostalgic hoarders everywhere (Sad Bear), a neurotic woman's encounter with a man who won't leave her front lawn (Tunnel), a Philippina nanny eagerly awaiting the arrival of her family in Canada (Sikat) and the story of two bored husbands looking to expand their horizons with Stupid Chainsaw Tricks.

So maybe you didn't get a chance to go, or maybe you did.

Maybe you were part of one of the 115 teams who pitched and didn't make it. Maybe you were involved in one of the six that did.

Or maybe you're just intrigued enough that you're starting to sweat and go a bit mental with a sense or urgent longing to own a DVD of the six shorts. If that's the case then please leave a comment, in ten words or less explaining why you want a copy and you could win one of two DVDs  of Crazy8s 2010 (courtesy of Crazys 8s producer Marc Stephenson).

Contest closes Friday, April 2 at 8:00 am.
