Welcome to The Playground, a place for Vancouver parents and their awesome kids. Every Wednesday we bring you a roundup of upcoming family-friendly events and activities. Because Vancouver is an awesome place to be a kid!

Victoria Day weekend is coming up, and that means…OUTDOOR POOLS! Yeah!

Mmm…that looks good. Kits, Second Beach and New Brighton Pools all open May 22. Schedule is here.

The Vancouver International Children’s Festival is on now! There’s lots going on -- have a look at their website for details. Cass and I are going to see Charlotte Diamond on Friday and we’ll be making a day of it, so I’m sure I’ll have photos to post soon.

X Marks the Spot at Science World. Earlier this month Science World unveiled their summer exhibit, Treasure! This weekend, urban treasure hunters from the BC Geocaching Association will lead you on a trek using tools of the trade.

The Burnaby Village Museum is having a big Victoria Day celebration, including a parade, historical re-enactors, Maypole dancing, crafts and a giant cake. May 24 from 11:00-4:30.

Rainbow the Dragon is visiting the Granville Island Kids Market on May 24 from 12:00-3:00pm. Also, there will be face painting all weekend from 12:00-5:00.

Movies for Mommies presents The Back-up Plan on May 26 at the Rio Theatre. Catch a movie in a baby-friendly environment every second Wednesday. Join the Vancouver group’s Facebook page for the latest updates.

That’s all for this week. I’m always on the lookout for fun stuff to do with kids, so if there’s something you think I should know about, contact me at theplayground@vancouverisawesome.com.

Happy long weekend, everyone!
