Your food isn't garbage... anymore

Do you have one of those green yard trimmings bins at your house? Did you know that you can now put food waste in there now? We've been doing it at my house for a month or so now.

Do you have one of those green yard trimmings bins at your house? Did you know that you can now put food waste in there now? We've been doing it at my house for a month or so now. We're in phase one of a residential food scraps program and right now it means that you can include uncooked fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and filters, teabags, and eggshells in your yard trimming cart to be picked up as per your current yard trimmings collection schedule.

Here's what they're saying about the second phase...

"In phase two, in 2011, all food scraps (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, bread, cereal products and food-soiled paper) will be allowed. It is expected that food scraps and yard trimmings will be collected weekly and garbage will be collected bi-weekly in order to minimize odours and insects from decomposing meat, fish and dairy scraps."

That's pretty awesome. Learn more HERE.
