Last Wednesday the Queen Elizabeth Theatre was the place to be as over 2500+(!) Vancouverites concerned with all matters of sustainability converged downtown to be inspired, educated, and enlightened at a very special edition of Pecha Kucha Night. The evening's presentations centered around the greater conversation the city is having as part of our Greenest City 2020 campaign, which you can read more about here.

Mayor Gregor Robertson. He's the man.

Our fearless (he does ride a bike to get around, after all) mayoral leader introduced the evening and made a presentation about the Greenest City 2020 Campaign. The ultra-hip (and kinda hippie) crowd cheered when slides highlighting new urban composting programs were screened, and the overall vibe in the room was one of positive excitement. My own personal "Moment of Awesome" (other than the shout-out Vancouver is Awesome got for being such an awesome media sponsor) for the evening goes to Mayor Gregor himself, who slayed me every time he said "Pecha Kucha;" specifically the time when he injected it with a Southern twang. For the record, it's actually pronounced "Puh-CHACH-Kah," and is Japanese slang for "chit chat."

Propaganda, when does right, is timeless.

The crowd was a cross-section of Vancouver: hipsters and hippies.
