Full details of the race are HERE. Co-founder Lorie Corcuera talks about how the Enspire Foundation, the race and the recruitment process this year to send the crew 2010 team: Q - Tell me about Enspire Foundation? A - Enspire Foundation's mission is "to empower, educate and encourage individuals to help themselves and others". We are about 'enspiring' young Canadians locally to give back to their communities here and internationally. Through our Shared Experience Program, we are giving volunteers an opportunity to gain a life changing experience by spending time with families from one of the poorest communities in the Philippines and then to build homes for the same families. Our hope is that they will continue this community work when they return to Vancouver (continued under the cut) Q - So what is the Enspiring Race? A - Like the popular reality show the Amazing Race, Enspire Foundation's first annual adventure racing fundraiser will have teams of four race around downtown Vancouver completing challenges that are acts of kindness. The organizers of the Enspiring Race have already secured many sponsors including the Manila Cargo, Mortgage Centre, Boston Pizza and Great Panther Silver Limited. There will be prizes for the top fundraiser including a grand prize of four (4) iPads for the winning team! Q - What are you fundraising for? A - Proceeds from the Enspiring Race will go towards the Bulacan Community Project (BCP) 2010, where Enspire Foundation's Shared Experience Program will send 12 young adult Canadians to the Philippines this November 2010 to continue the construction of homes in Norzagaray Bulacan, Philippines. The homes are an integral part of a larger community project aimed to help in the relocation of slum-dwellers from the impoverished area of Bagong Silang in Navotas City, Metro Manila. Q - What was the recruitment process like for the new BCP 2010 team? A - The applicants went through a series of phone and panel interviews and then participated in a team building event. The Ambassadors chosen are all from the Lower Mainland and bring a unique mix of personalities and backgrounds to the team. We are very excited to have Sammie Jo Rumbaua lead this year's BCP 2010 team. Sammie Jo has volunteered for Enspire Foundation since its' inception in 2000 but this will be the first time participating in the Bulacan Community Project. We are also providing local Canadian volunteers an opportunity to give back globally to those less fortunate than ourselves." If you are interested in volunteering, donating, becoming a sponsor and/or would like more information, please visit www.enspireme.org or visit Facebook - Enspire Foundation. Enspire Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC and was established in September 1999. Five UBC graduates from a myriad of backgrounds came together with the genuine intent of making a difference in our society. Recognizing the value of being empowered through the privilege of having an education, these young adults set out to create an environment through which the less fortunate can derive the same opportunity. Through a variety of awareness initiatives, Enspire aims to make individuals realize and appreciate how truly fortunate they are, and consequently, inspire them to assist the less fortunate. In turn, Enspire provides these individuals with the opportunity to reach out and help and ultimately, hopes that these same people will further the Enspire's mission. - 30 - Pictures available.
