For Immediate Release News Release August 23, 2010 Adventure Racing While Giving Back to the Community! Vancouver, BC – On September 18, 2010, 25 teams of four will race around downtown Vancouvercompleting challenges that are acts of kindness. Like the popular reality show The Amazing Race, Enspire Foundation, a local non-profit organization, will hold its first ever adventure racing fundraiser called the Enspiring Race (the “Race”). The organizers of the Race have already secured many sponsors including the Manila Cargo, Mortgage Centre, Boston Pizza and Great Panther Silver Limited. There will be prizes for the top fundraiser including a grand prize of four (4) iPads for the winning team! Proceeds from the Race will go towards the Bulacan Community Project (BCP) 2010, where Enspire Foundation’s Shared Experience Program will send 12 young adult Canadians to the Philippines to continue the construction of homes in Norzagaray Bulacan, Philippines. The homes are an integral part of a larger community project aimed to help in the relocation of slum-dwellers from the impoverished area of Bagong Silang in Navotas City, Metro Manila. “The group will travel to the Philippines on November 3 to 13, 2010, where they will spend two days with the families in Navotas and then head to Bulacan for the remainder of the trip to construct two 540 square foot homes,” says Dianna David, one of the 12 BCP Ambassadors chosen this year. “This will be a life changing experience for me as I will see a completely different side of the world compared to Canada or Vancouver.” The BCP Ambassadors will organize and participate in several fundraising events which will cover travel, accommodation, food, building supplies as well as collect in-kind donations for the poor families they will visit. "Myself and four other University of B.C. graduates founded Enspire Foundation 11 years ago," says cofounder Lorie Corcuera. "Over the years we've raised over $80,000 to send under-privileged kids to school and we've participated in the early development of a new community where less fortunate families from a shanty town in Navotas will move. We are also providing local Canadian volunteers an opportunity to give back globally to those less fortunate than ourselves." To register for the Race, go to www.enspireme.org or visit Facebook – The Enspiring Race. Deadline to register for the race is Friday, August 27, 2010. If you are interested in volunteering, donating, becoming a sponsor and/or would like more information, please visit www.enspireme.org or visit Facebook - Enspire Foundation. Enspire Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC and was established in September 1999. Five UBC graduates from a myriad of backgrounds came together with the genuine intent of making a difference in our society. Recognizing the value of being empowered through the privilege of having an education, these young adults set out to create an environment through which the less fortunate can derive the same opportunity. Through a variety of awareness initiatives, Enspire aims to make individuals realize and appreciate how truly fortunate they are, and consequently, inspire them to assist the less fortunate. In turn, Enspire provides these individuals with the opportunity to reach out and help and ultimately, hopes that these same people will further the Enspire's mission. - 30 - Pictures available.
