Victory Square Block Party 2010:A bootlegged "time lapse"

Yesterday Sean Miller SHARED some photos taken at the Victory Square Block Party that I assume you were at. Cameron Reed (one of the organizers and the brains and braun behind Music Waste) posted a bunch of photos on Facebook so I figured I would leech some of them and post a sort of time lapse of the day, as seen from the stage.

And did you know that the Victory Square Block Party was co-presented by Megaphone Magazine? By selling Megaphone on the streets of Vancouver, it's vendors work incredibly hard to improve their lives and community. Whether it's homelessness, poverty, addiction or a mental or physical illness, Megaphone vendors have overcome some tremendous obstacles and barriers.

“Selling Megaphone got me on a different path, where I could look forward instead of back,” says Megaphone vendor Peter Thompson. “It got my mind going so I could get myself back on the right track. Now I have a small place I’m renting with my brother and I like to spend time with my nephews and my sister on weekends."

But in order to keep empowering their homeless and low-income vendors they need your help. This Fall season, Megaphone needs to raise $10,000 so they can continue to provide vendors with the opportunity to change their lives. Through donations and sponsorships from last weekend's Victory Square Block Party, they were able to raise $3,000. They need your help to raise the remaining $7,000 so they can reach their goal.

By making a donation to Megaphone, you are supporting a program that gives their vendors the tools and skills they need to be successful. You are also supporting an award-winning magazine that gives the city a unique perspective: whether it's articles from their vendors, powerful first-person stories and poems from their community writing workshops or investigative news pieces from professional journalists.

Their vendors take tremendous pride in selling Megaphone to their customers. Knowing that people respect their hard work is a big boost to their self-esteem. When you make a donation to Megaphone you are helping change someone’s life.

Your donation helps pay for:
