VIFF LINEUP OUT TODAY

As you are finishing off your end of summer haiku's (strong chance that's just me), there are at least lots of things going in the city to combat summer's conclusion. The New Forms Festival runs until Sep.
As you are finishing off your end of summer haiku's (strong chance that's just me), there are at least lots of things going in the city to combat summer's conclusion. The New Forms Festival runs until Sep. 18, the Fringe Festival is also on, Olio Festival is coming up and for film nerds from West Van to Abbotsford, the Vancouver International Film Festival full lineup was officially announced today! Yeah, not to hate on TIFF or anything, I, in no way, would be opposed to spotting Penelope Cruz around town or something like that but I just love how VIFF keeps in on the humble in maintaining its' own character. Running the most East Asian movies outside any film festival within Asia, this year has no small amount of far east treats with Thai Palme d'Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives , the latest from Miike Takeshi, 13 Assasins, the highest grossing picture in Chinese history, Aftershock, as well as Korean director Bong Joon-Ho (the Host) sitting in on the jury for the 2010 Dragons & Tigers Award for Young Cinema. See the full Dragons & Tigers lineup here. There are a number of flicks from Cannes and dont forget about the Canadian Images Series too. This year also features for the first time the Africa Today series as well. Or, just take your time and look at the complete program by country. The only catch with VIFF is you got to have a Visa to order tickets online. Tickets purchases onsite (at the VIFC, 1181 Seymour St @ Davie, noon – 7:00 pm) begin on Sunday/Sep. 19. Palme d’Or winner: Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Thailand) 13 Assasins (Japan) Altitude (BC) Bush League (USA, Malawi)
