Imagine 2020. In just ten years, Vancouver will be the greenest city in the world. |
GOAL #9: Clean Air
Always meet the most stringent of World Health Organization, Canada, BC or Metro Vancouver objectives for air quality
Vancouver already enjoys relatively clean air compared to most major cities, thanks to effective programs and regulations, as well as favourable weather. However, it is not possible to monitor air quality everywhere in the city, so there may be specific areas not currently monitored where air quality could be improved.
CHALLENGES:
As population and goods transportation both grow, it may be difficult to improve air quality. Many air emission sources (such as marine vessels, trucks or heavy industries) are under Federal, Provincial or Metro Vancouver authority, so successful reductions from these sources will require continued leadership from our partners. Actions that reduce emissions of one pollutant may increase emissions of another pollutant, so carefully considered tradeoffs may be required.
