Buzzing around the Museum of Vancouver

If you haven't been down to the Museum Of Vancouver 's Home Grown exhibit yet (click HERE for my overview post) then you surely haven't seen Allen Garr's beekeeping suit and tools accompanying the photo of him by Brian Harris accompanying it.

If you haven't been down to the Museum Of Vancouver's Home Grown exhibit yet (click HERE for my overview post) then you surely haven't seen Allen Garr's beekeeping suit and tools accompanying the photo of him by Brian Harris accompanying it.

Allen (pictured left... and right) is the president of the Richmond Beekeepers Association and vice president of the BC Honey Producers Association. I had the pleasure of picking his brain at the Museum recently and learned not only where beeswax comes from but also a little bit about the ins and outs of urban beekeeping.

Alan also takes care of the bees and their hives that are on top of the new(ish) Convention Centre downtown, hopefully I'll be able to get a tour and bring you some information on what's going on up there. There are actually quite a few urban hives which I hope to explore, so stay tuned.
