Today's featured cat is Abby, a 5 month old kitten recently rescued from the BC SPCA. She belongs to reader Monica M.'s parents, and she recently gave them quite the Hallowe'en scare...

Name: She is such a sweet little girl and her name in the shelter was the same as my older sister's name! My parents renamed her Abby and have since fallen in love.

Breed/Colouring: Black and White

Hood: Oakridge / Cambie Village

Habits: Hiding in drawers!

On Halloween day, my parents got home around 4:30-5:00 and Abby didn't greet my mom at the door like she usually does. I was supposed to go over for dinner, and when I called at 6:00 my dad picked up the phone.

"Is there anything I can bring?" I asked. "You can help us find our cat." He said hurredly. I rushed over and amid the trick-or-treaters my mom was walking up the street bawling her eyes out and yelling "Abby! Here Abby! Abigail!"

I went inside and proceeded to go through the house looking under beds, in closets, behind furniture. My dad confirmed he had done all that already, but helped me look anyway. Fast forward 3 hours and we have all been through the neighbourhood, I've knocked on doors and talked to our neighbours, called shelters and 24/7 Animal Hospitals, and even started making fliers. I had gotten tape and a stapler from the kitchen and put up about 15 fliers in a 2 block radius.

My mom is beside herself and convinced that she's never going to see Abby again, while my dad is oddly detached. I assure my mom that someone has Abby in their house since she was lost before dark, and I'm sure that someone thought to bring her into their house before the fireworks began.

At about 10:00pm, I had started to distribute fliers into our neighbour's mailboxes. I decided to get my parents to help so I called for my dad and went to draw a map to split up the area. I went into the kitchen to get a pad of paper, opened the drawer and THERE ABBY WAS! "I FOUND HER!" I yelled while lifting her out of the drawer. My mom and dad came running -- mom scooped Abby into her arms and hugged her and kissed her and rocked her back and forth. Then my dad, who had been kicking himself before because he thought he let Abby out by accident, started to cry. He muttered about tears of joy and how Abby had already worked her way into their heart.

We figured out that Abby must have hopped into the kitchen drawer to explore, and my dad closed it with his foot (which he does quite often). The oddest part is that the tape and stapler that I got for the LOST CAT signs were located in the drawer above Abby! She didn't make a peep the whole time.

She was a bit shaky, and rushed to her water bowl and then litterbox, but was playing happily within 30 minutes. Quite the little trooper!
