IllustratedVancouver.ca - so where did this site concept come from? Well, I can probably trace it back to a guest post I did on the Buzzer blog over a year ago, where I was seeking out depictions of Vancouver transit in fine art. The more I sought out and studied a wider scope of Vancouver landscapes, drawings, and sketches, the more I began to appreciate them.

To begin highlighting this particular meme/theme, I'd like to start with this painting of Nelson & Granville by Taralee Guild, a 2010 Emily Carr graduate. It depicts Granville Street in the midst of its recent makeover, with blue construction fencing evident on the right. This stretch of Granville makes for rich subject matter with an array of neon signs vying for your attention, and this painting caught my attention.

This month you have not one but two of the best opportunities to view and acquire some local art; the ECUAD student sale happens Nov 12-14, and the East Side Culture Crawl takes place Nov 26-28. My advice: seek out art that moves you!
