Remember a few months back when we put THIS call out to all of the local mobile carriers at the time, asking if one of them might help out our organization with a smartphone so we could access Twitter from beyond the walls of our office? And remember when Telus answered the call (pun intended, thank you) and GAVE us a Motorola Backflip phone with a full year of free service including an unlimited data package? Well, they continue to give back and contribute to the cultural fibre of this city and we thank them for it every chance we get.
If you're following our main account on twitter (@VIAwesome) then you've also been following this story that started six months ago. Since we got this phone and have been tweeting from every corner of the city we've doubled the amount of people following our account. At the risk of boasting I'm happy to report than in that half of a year we went from 3,750 followers to 7,766 and we even picked up 3rd place in the Georgia Straight's BEST OF 2010 for Best Local Twitterer (we also won best local blog)! I think it's safe to say that our goal of "serving you, our faithful readers, more awesomeness" with a smartphone and Twitter in the real world has been achieved, and we owe a large part of that to Telus. Pretty much all of it, actually.
So thanks again, Telus! You totally, totally rule. And to all of our readers and followers on Twitter, you also rule and we look forward to bringing you even more awesomeness in the months and years to come.
Oh and we still keep this old phone on display at our office...
