Daily Flickr Pickr – Day 351

Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!).

So, today marks the first day of winter, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. Now, while the 21st of December marks the shortest amount of time between sunrise and sunset, today’s sunset is not the earliest of the year; that happened between the 7th and the 15th of this month. Conversely, the latest sunrise of the year happens around New Years Day this year. Clear as mud? What do I know – its dark when I go to work and dark when I leave!

When you were a child, did you find it hard to sleep when the forecast called for snow overnight? I sure did, and I suspect the same might be said for the little kids in nolitawanders photo Untitled.

I really like the colour palette in this photograph; it makes it easy for me to imagine myself as one of those little ones, and the wonder and excitement of the season for someone of that age.
