I've always been of the mind that if you have problems with the city that you choose to live in you should either work to fix those problems or you should pack your stuff up and move away to the place that you most often compare it to or weigh it against. If you often find yourself complaining about how Vancouver is lacking this and New York has so much more of that or how it's so much better in Montreal because of this and that then perhaps it's time you channel that energy that you spend complaining into helping make positive changes.

This coming week Vancouver Cultural Services are holding two open houses on the First Phase of the Live Performance Venue Regulatory Review which on February 3rd will be taken along with a report to Mayor and Council recommending Phase I Implementation. At these open houses you can learn about the review, share your comments and suggestions and perhaps put those negative feelings to work into doing something positive for the city you choose to live in.

First read THIS PDF whose backgrounder starts with...

Recognizing that spaces for arts, culture, and creativity are vital to the City, in 2008, City Council adopted a new 15-year Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan that identifies strategies and tactics for enabling the creation and operation of cultural spaces. One of the key recommendations in that plan is addressing the City’s regulatory systems (zoning and development, building code and licensing) to harmonize and modernize these systems to better support cultural spaces..."
