On April 15th 1957, White Rock became its own city; Surrey, however, would not be left without any beaches. Crescent Beach was first settled in 1871 when New Westminster's first blacksmith, Walter Blackie, bought 150 hectares from a Royal Engineer for $50 and built a home. Today, beach-seekers looking for some solitude may find it a quieter alternative to the ever-popular and always busy White Rock, and Aurélie Forge seems to have found hers there in the form of a gorgeous winter sunset. Mud Bay appears as if a sheet of glass in Crescent Beach.
