I recently had the pleasure of seeing My Name is Asher Lev at what is assuredly one of the more unusual theatre spaces in Vancouver, the Pacific Theatre, last week. With innovative staging and beautiful performances the play is cerebral and intense, with colourful notions about talent and the destiny of an artist that left my brain swirling for days after.

"When a young Jewish prodigy paints The Brooklyn Crucifixions, the reaction of his Orthodox community forces a terrible decision — between family and vocation, between his love for God and his desperate need to make art. A poignant coming of age story, as intimate as a family dinner and as vast as a young man’s dreams. Heartbreaking, triumphant."
