The Proof - Stephanie Coleridge

Stephanie transplanted herself to Vancouver somewhat reluctantly from the chic and sophisticated city of Montreal in 2006. Since then, she has embraced the West Coast lifestyle while applying her own unique charm and style.  Stephanie is both striking and timeless with her bluish-green eyes, ivory complexion, and petite frame.  Yet, her still, ethereal presence masks a quick and biting wit.  Such a sharp tongue in such a small and pretty face!  She is also capable of an infuriating attention to detail and strives for the same unhurried perfection in an architectural drawing, a knitted sock, or a message in a birthday card.  Her unmatched sense of style is evidenced by the absence of a single scrap of polar fleece in her closet and innumerable interesting hats and shoes.

Stephanie Coleridge Proof

The Proof

01 The view from my apartment.

02 A rather tidy view of my desk at work.

03 Rain/water-resistant footwear.  Unlike the east I don't have to worry about salt stains destroying my shoes, I just stay away from suede and ridiculously huge puddles.

04 Walking - I love walking; I like the speed and the flexibility of it. I have a transit pass which allows me to take the lazy way home or take shortcuts through skytrain stations.

05 Tea, strong. About four cups per day during the week.  I've been known to have coffee too, though mostly on the weekend. I prefer black tea, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, etc - Lapsang Souchong for something a little different.

06 Books: some to read, some to finish reading, some to re-read.  This pile doesn't really diminish because I'm often distracted by a number of design magazines and the infinite offerings of the internet.

07 I can sew and knit. I have tendency to start projects and then...finish them much, much later.  Years later.  It's called procraftination.

08 I have a lot of black and gray in my wardrobe, could be the stereotypical architect thing.  But I like colour too. Especially red.

The Questions

What neighborhood do you live in?

The West End, west of Denman.

What do you do and where?

I'm an intern at Patkau Architects. And a flâneur.

What are you working on?

I'm mainly working on a house under construction in Whistler.  It's very challenging, but very rewarding to see it taking shape. It's meticulous, head-scratching work, and there's still a long way to go before it's complete.  I'm also involved in a new building for the School of Art and Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba.

Independently I'm working on an idea about the incorporation of curated art collections in hospitals, as well as investigating how the design of mobility aids, such as walkers, crutches and canes, may negatively affect mobility.  And generally questioning how design enhances our daily life.

Where can we find your work?

The best place to see my professional work is at www.patkau.ca

Some local completed projects that I've worked on are the Yaletown Canada Line Station (with a previous employer) and the Winston Overpass of the Central Valley Greenway.

You can find me and my thoughts on Twitter (@stepc,) where I talk about many things, but not much about my work.
