SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.
With ALMOST 25,000 artists, boasting 112,500+ tracks, the CBC Radio 3 web site is the absolute ultimate authority, and the home, of independent music in Canada. With that massive library along with tools for members (free to join!), we’re taking advantage of what they’ve set up by bringing you a fresh batch of music every week featuring local groups who have tracks (entire albums, even!) on the R3 site.
This week's playlist was compiled by Vancouver band Siskiyou...which is a relatively new group led by former Great Lake Swimmers member Colin Huebert in collaboration with Erik Arnesen (who still plays with the Swimmers). Also in the band are Shaunn Watt, and, recently acquired from Said The Whale, Peter Carruthers!
The guys are opening a huge (sold-out!) show at the Biltmore for Jim Bryson and the Weakerthans on Saturday and to celebrate we've asked them to put together a list of some awesome songs by Vancouver musicians. (And boy did they ever, so many new names we've never heard of...thanks guys!) Click the images below to hear their collection!
