Two of my favourite worlds collide: art and fishing! Yos at Chromer Sportfishing wrote today to let us know about this amazing auction event that's happening at The Sandbar tonight from 5:30 until 8:00. It's being put on by and for the Pacific Salmon Foundation which is a conservation society, and they're giving the public a chance to own some amazing art either by bidding on original paintings or simply buying lithographs.

For those of you who have never been salmon fishing before the way the licensing works is through the federal government. First you buy your regular fishing license (saltwater or freshwater) which allows you to fish for a variety of different gilled species as well as shellfish. If you want to catch a salmon and bring it home for the BBQ though, you are required to buy a stamp for it as an add-on to your license. The cost is $6 and portions of that go towards conservation, so essentially you're paying a conservation tax. On these very stamps every year is a different (always stunningly beautiful) image of salmon in the wild, painted by different Canadian artists. Tonight they're auctioning off 5 of the original paintings from years past as well as selling lithographs. Admission to the event is $30 which includes an Oceanwise salmon menu and a drink. Details HERE.
