Kitten Rescue in the West End... and Unite for Japan

Last week a friend of mine, Judah Oakes, shot these great photos of a kitten rescue in the West End. Our firefighters hard at work, a more fitting/cute story in the spirit of what we do with V.I.A.

Last week a friend of mine, Judah Oakes, shot these great photos of a kitten rescue in the West End. Our firefighters hard at work, a more fitting/cute story in the spirit of what we do with V.I.A. may not have been told since THIS piece that I did on a duckling rescue back in 2008. I drafted up a post, got distracted, and was revisiting it when the earthquake struck in Japan. It's not something that we're likely to report on beyond this post as you can obviously find out about it everywhere you look - and we have been built as a sort of shelter from bad news - BUT this is something that is incredibly important right now, so we wanted to let you know about one way that you can help.

First, have a look through these photos of our firefighters saving a kitten and let it sink in how lucky we have it that they have the time and resources to handle this variety of emergency. Then consider attending THIS fundraiser called Unite For Japan on Saturday to support Japan's firefighters, who are involved in a much more serious kind of work right now and will be for some time. All proceeds raised will go to the Canadian Red Cross (obviously that doesn't go directly towards firefighters/rescue workers in Japan, but you get the point). If you don't feel like going out, you can always just make a donation directly HERE.
