Sometimes the difference between a memorable photo and a forgettable one is the photographer's approach to the scene in front of them. When you are working with subject matter that is somewhat mundane, it becomes that much more imperative that the photographer look for a fresh way to look at the familiar.

Keath Ling was confronted with a scenario similar to the one outlined above, and rose to the challenge. In fact, one could argue that Keath passed the test with flying colours. Many of us would not see any potential in a photograph of a woman browsing through racks of jeans at everyone's favourite second-hand shop, myself included. But instead of leaving his camera in his backpack like I might have done, he saw an opportunity afforded by one of my 'Basic Photographic Gifts #2: Free Elevation' and approached the scene from above.

I honestly had no idea what I was looking at from the thumbnail, but there was enough visual information present to generate an element of curiosity that compelled me to take a closer look - I therefore felt rewarded when I did view the larger version. From Keath Ling, here is M13.

Well done Keath. You managed to create a very interesting image from the everyday and the mundane, my hat is off to you.
