Vancouver's Old Streams (and shoreline)

Did you know that a large part of the city as you know it used to be underwater before settlers arrived in Vancouver? And that the city is striped with many underground streams which used to be above ground streams before we decided we needed to hide them in order to drive our cars over them? It's true. Sharon Proctor wrote a book all about it in 1978 called Vancouver's Old Streams and the UBC Library and Vancouver Aquarium recently released a PDF of this poster below showing the old shoreline (the outline in red) as well as the old waterways (in blue).

It's crazy to think that the V.I.A. office on the second floor of 115 East Pender in Chinatown was once nearly oceanside property.
