SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.

sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city...

First this week, I borrowed the wonderful Leigh Eldridge once again to cover the Matt Epp CD Release concert at St James Hall (while I selfishly ate & drank many wonderful things at the VanMag Restaurant Awards). I am sad I missed the show which Leigh tells me was great! That said, I got to see another Matt, aka Northcote, at his CD Release show at the Media Club and it was amazing. And last but not least, Saturday was full of great (and handsome) acts, the first being Yukon Blonde at Zulu Records as a part of Record Store Day. Then it was over to the Red Room for West Coast Pop! with Portage & Main, Adrian Glynn and David Vertesi. See photos of the wonderful week below...

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC: is a bit slower during the week than normal but picks up on the weekend. Wednesday is a memorial benefit for Devon Clifford at the Biltmore. Friday sees two semi-musical events, but both equally entertaining in their own way: Donald Glover (click here for those of you who don't know who he is) will be performing both hip-hop/rap and stand up at the Commodore Ballroom (click here to see what to expect). And over across town you can find a whole bunch of crazy...good...things at the Rio Theatre with Randy & Evi Quaid presenting their Star Wackers docu-drama, taking questions, and Randy will be performing....for real. Saturday is packed with shows...West Coast Pop! w/the Salteens, and Behind Sapphire, Zachary Lucky, and Fisticuffs at Cafe Deux Soleils, Patton Osawalt (!!!) at the Vogue Theatre, Germany Germany, Maurice +more at the Cobalt, and of course Tokyo Police Club and Said The Whale at the Commodore. Not sure how you'll choose (I'll be here!)...
