'Twas a big day for running in the City of Vancouver today with the 40th edition of the Vancouver Marathon. Started in 1972 with 46 runners completing five loops of Stanley Park to reach the 42km distance, it has since become the second-largest annual marathon event in Canada, attracting over 14,000 participants last year.

My better half has done the Sun Run and half-marathons a few times each prior to this year, but she completed her first marathon today, and I have a new respect for the dedication it takes to train for such an exertion. I mean, I dropped her off at the skytrain bright and early this morning, went home and slept a few more hours, then made a coffee stop on my way down to the finish line - and people were running almost that entire time!

Greg Herringer brought back some interesting photos from the half-marathon run that took place as part of the overall event, and with us he shares In The Cups.

Congratulations to those who took place today, whether you ran the full marathon or the half, the wheelchair marathon or anything and everything in between. Kudos to you if you volunteered. You've all got my respect.
