UNPLUGGED Flickr Pick: Skimboarding @ Wreck Beach

UNPLUGGED is a state of mind.

It's that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest.

It's official, Vancouverites are by far the most adventurous group of individuals I have ever encountered. If you are not out doing something crazy like steering your bikes off a cliff or dropping down a mountain on a thin layer of fiberglass you are just not happy. I guess I am a wimp because as I complain each week about the late Spring temperatures there people like Trevor Gatto here letting it all hang out at Wreck Beach for a little skimboarding excitement. This awesome capture was taken by JGiddy on May 1, 2011 when I am certain the water temperature was no higher than 8 degrees C.

Cool shot Giddy!
