SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.

sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city...

VIAindie took a short roadtrip across the sea to Victoria this weekend to check out some of our island favourites. First up was a show at the beautiful St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church where Julia Wakal, Matt Lockhart (of Treelines) and Aidan Knight all performed. The next night it was off to The Office to see Vancouver Island Music Award nominee (5 of them!) Katie Schaan (who will be performing in Vancouver SOON). And Sunday was a spectacular day for a picnic and a show outside the BC Museum including Aidan Knight once again and The Provincial Archives. Excellent time on the island, and I even saw a pod of orca during the ferry ride home.

Back on the mainland Monday night, Dawes and Brett Dennen rolled into town. I was worried about a show at the Vogue on game night, but it turned out fine and the show was great (Dawes in particular was spectacular!).

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC: probably won't start for anyone until this hockey business is sorted out...but THURSDAY you should go check out this week's playlist creators The Sumner Brothers (w/ Portage & Main, Rolla Olak, and Steve Brockley) at The Colbalt. FRIDAY you must go see Redbird (whose EP came out today!) at The Kozmik Zoo w/ Debra-Jean, and Diego Zaragoza. SATURDAY you should all go see Bob Kemmis perform at The Fairview Pub! SUNDAY is Car Free Day in Vancouver, and a few different areas of the city have live music happening as well as other great events (I recommend Main Street for the most music)...THEN when that's done, go see Jordan Klassen, and Jocelyn Price at Cafe Deux Soleils. Go Canucks Go!

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR VIA in the BLOG section of the UCC&Awards - Lifestyle, Sports, Events and...MUSIC! (you can only vote once, and don't have to sign up, so it's super easy.)

(FYI, I'm also in the ARTS>PHOTOGRAPHER section) xo!
