It took me a little while, but I'm finally able to think about hockey again. What with the two months of beer drinking every second night, the heart-breaking loss in Game 7 and everything after...it was a lot to take in and it wore me out right proper. But the hockey I am talking about today is different - it's closer to the kind you played in front of your house when you were a kid.

Which brings us to today's photo from cultivate! - taken at South Memorial Park near Fraser and 41st a week or two ago. I quite like how this image was framed; placing the figure and the net high in the frame results in a very minimal composition, and I find that interesting. Also interesting is the placement of the ball in the net - I picture a shot that went over the left shoulder of the goalie, and ricocheted off the inside of the post toward the opposite corner behind his right shoulder. I'm thinking a hard wrist-shot perhaps? I don't think we should place too much blame on the poor goalie - if you look closely he is playing with a position-player's stick, without a lot of upper-body protection, either. But at the end of the day, they don't ask 'how', they just ask 'how many', and the video review judge agrees that this is, in fact, a Goal.
