sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city...

Last week in music was slightly crazy for me. Beginning with the night I got my hair chopped off...Treelines performed at HAIR-E-OKE to a busy Electric Owl (thanks again boys) and we raised $436 at the door! Thursday I caught the media screening of Said The Whale's new documentary (it's on TV on Saturday at 7pm on CBC!) and then ran over to the Shore Song Search Showcase at the Biltmore. Friday was the latest installment of Rain City Chronicles with the theme of Harder Better Faster Stronger (Redgy Blackout and 41st and Home performed) before running off to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival for the weekend (more on that in a separate post!). After 3 days of music in the rain, it was off the the Biltmore again for 41st and Home's EP release show with Young Liars and Oh No! Yoko...during which I played saxophone for 41st and Home. I had a blast, thanks to everyone who came out!

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC: begins tonight (Weds) at Fortune with a FREE show by F*cked Up (can I say that on here?) which I am stoked to see. Friday head to Nyala on Main Street for Portage and Main, Julia and her Piano (last show before she moves!) and Ma Petite! Saturday is the huge all day festival in Kits/4th Ave with a ton of bands playing...Kingdom Cloud, Hot Panda, Ma Petite, David Vertesi, Louise Burns, Veda Hille, Aidan Knight, Sun Wizard, Yukon Blonde, Jon & Roy, The Evaporators and more! Be there (and then go watch the STW documentary afterward!

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR VIA in the BLOG section of the UCC&Awards - Lifestyle, Sports, Events and...MUSIC! (you can only vote once, and don't have to sign up, so it's super easy.)
