sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city...

Well, I already updated you on the regular shows that happened in town last week. Today you get to see what the soggy Vancouver Folk Music Festival was like from behind my lens...

Day One I missed some of the music as I was at Rain City Chronicles, but I hauled it over to Jerhico to catch most of Joel Plaskett...from slightly further back that I'm used to...

Day Two was filled with rain and some amazing music...

It started off with a workshop consisting of Jim Bryson, Joel Plaskett, The Dardanelles and the Burning Hell. Then it was over to another workshop with Joel Plaskett, Elliott Brood, and The Fugitives.

Back on Stage 3 I saw Danny Michel, then ran over to take in a song by Tim Robbins (yes, THAT Tim Robbins), then back again for The Burning Hell, Buck 65, and the highlight of my weekend, the Elliott Brood concert...

Day Three, also mighty soggy, had some of the best workshops I've ever seen...probably in large part for Jim Bryson bringing The Weakerthans along this day. Joining them were Kathryn Calder, and Imaginary Cities. Next up for me across the field was The Burning Hell, Imaginary Cities (again), Danny Michel, and Justin Townes Earle. Back to Stage 3 for Elliott Brood, Pokey LaFarge & The South City Three and Wendy McNeill. Finally the last two shows were concerts by Kathryn Calder and then Jim Bryson & The Weatherthans. Excellent, excellent weekend...
