In The Closet featuring Eunice Quan

Welcome to Vancouver Is Awesome's newest feature, "In the Closet", an intimate look into the wardrobes of stylish Vancouverites. Eunice Quan is a force to be reckoned with.

Eunice Quan is a force to be reckoned with. She's one of the cities youngest entrepreneurs and her latest venture, THE BOARD OF TRADE CO., solidifies her spot on Vancouver's fashion map. Her dominating presence blends into her wardrobe that incorporates masculine cuts, bad ass brass knuckles, and combat boots. Don't let her size fool you. Her petite frame is no measure to the amount of drive and ambition that is sure to have her solidify a few more spots in the world of fashion.

Tell us a little about yourself...

I am a design nerd that’s aspiring to take over the world, one idea at a time. For the past two years, I had dedicated myself to creating and developing clothing stores/brands. I recently just left my first venture OAK+FORT to start a new business with a friend called BOARD OF TRADE CO. I love every aspect of this retail game. I love what I do and the people around me. For me it’s not about the dolla bills, but it’s about starting a positive movement and fostering a community for creative talent locally and internationally.

How would you describe your style?

Effortless chic. Menswear inspired.

Best places to shop in Vancouver?

Old Faithful- For anything home related, this is my go to place. I love how there is a story behind every product they carry.

For menswear, I am obviously biased, but I have to say Board of Trade Co.

Charlie and Lee - Hands down one of the best boutiques in Vancouver. Kleah and Josh (the owners) are paving way for the next wave of young entrepreneurs. I am not sure what’s better, them or the clothes they carry.

Gypsy Market - This is a fresh concept, reminds me of the Brooklyn flea markets. Plus the girls that run this are badass. I like badass chicks.

Value Village - I always find that I get the best stuff from the Value Villages out in the burbs.

What item from your wardrobe would you save if your house was on fire?

A ring that that has been in the family for six generations. And my mom’s gold hibiscus bracelet she received as a wedding gift. I had been eyeing that piece of jewelry since I was a little girl. She gave it to me 2 years ago right before she passed away.

What's the most sentimental piece you own?

My men’s silk black blazer I scored at a flea market a few years back. When I first found it, the blazer was extremely tattered and torn and needed a lot of patching up. My mom and I spent at least a week sourcing fabric and sewing it back together. Now its my classic go to piece, to throw on for an event or to go to the grocery store. It’s extremely versatile.

Is there an outfit in your wardrobe that's hideous but you just can't part with?

I call it the Brooklyn shirt. I still remember the moment my eyes caught the tacky polyester African-esque print button up at Value Village. I was immediately offended at how obnoxious the shirt was. It was so bad I just had to have it. I felt sorry for it. Its like when you see a sick puppy that’s been neglected, you want to take it home and care for it. That’s how I felt about this shirt.

The funny thing is that the shirt sat in my closet for years until recently, I went to Brooklyn and for jokes I brought it with me. Turns out it was my most worn outfit during my trip in New York.

Big thanks to Eunice! Be sure to stop by her new venture THE BOARD OF TRADE CO. at 227 Union Street.
