Ucluelet - You gotta do it

UNPLUGGED is a state of mind.

UNPLUGGEDis a state of mind. It’s that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest.

When you live on the West Coast everything is an outdoor adventure. And at some point you will eventually venture over to Vancouver Island and discover all the great things to see and do there. For me, when I first moved here everyone kept telling me “you have to go to the island and see Tofino, you’ll love it.” Well I finally ventured over to the island to check out what all the hype was about.

Instead of going just to Tofino we decided we were going to stay in Ucluelet and enjoy a more relaxing and out of the way area. I’m glad we did. Ucluelet is a beautiful place and just a short drive to Tofino and all its sandy goodness. We stayed at a great place called The Cabins, right on Terrace Beach. What a magnificent spot. Breathtaking views around every corner, amazing hiking trails and the beaches are kick-ass.

We ventured around a great trail right by our cabin called the lighthouse trail. This takes you across some amazing terrain and gives you views that will blow your mind. Mix in some stormy weather and you got yourself a trip of a lifetime. Did you know that Twilight was filmed there? Well it was. Not that it makes any difference. It’s mind blowing amazing regardless of what movie was shot there.

So I highly recommend that you take the time to head over to Ucluelet and check out all the amazing scenery. There is so much to see and experience that it could never fit in one post. So here are a few tasty pics to get you pumped about a visit.

Bye Bye Horseshoe Bay.

Pretty stellar views from Long Beach.

The pot of gold you'll find at the end of the lighthouse trail. Can you say, postcard!

More amazing views from the lighthouse trail. I think I took like a hundred of these. They're just so captivating.

I love crashing waves.

It's soooooo beautiful there. You gotta go check it out for yourself. Just a quick note on the place where we stayed, it's a dog friendly place too. We brought Max with us and he had just as much fun as we did.

Until next time. Happy adventures.
