50 Coffees #1 – Darren Barefoot

I recently read a theory that going for 50 coffees with people you’ve never met is the entrepreneurs equivalent to the theory that doing anything for 10,000 hours will make you an expert on it. While I get the idea, 50 coffees is far easier than practicing something for ten years, and while I’m far from lazy I’ve decided to set out on a fairly simple mission: over the next 50 weeks I’m going to invite 50 interesting Vancouverites, most of whom I have never met before, to go for coffee. I’m going to use this as an exercise in networking for myself and for V.I.A. while also using it as a platform to introduce you to some people who are doing really cool stuff in the city you live in.

Name: Darren Barefoot
Occupation: Canadian/Marketer
Beverage: Steamed milk

Meet Darren Barefoot. Writer, technologist, marketer, and owner of Capulet Communications, he’s in the middle of an incredible project that you may have heard about. For an entire year he has vowed to only buy Canadian products, eat Canadian food and consume Canadian media. The project is called One Year, One Canadian, and for each of the 12 months he’s given himself a new specific goal to tackle, and all of these goals pile on top of each other until the final month when he will be living 100% Canadian. The goal of “eating only Canadian food” was initiated in August, which explains why instead of drinking coffee in this “50 Coffees” feature, he’s drinking steamed milk! How does he do it? Why does he do it? Click the LINK to learn more and to follow his progress.
