Buntzen Bound

UNPLUGGED is a state of mind.

UNPLUGGEDis a state of mind. It’s that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest.

If it’s one thing we have no shortage of its great places to discover. There are so many amazing hidden gems out there and all you have to do is get out and enjoy it. One place that I love is Buntzen Lake. Just on the cusp of Port Moody and Anmore, follow the signs up Ioco road in Port Moody and you’re just a short drive there.

There are a wide variety of hiking trails here ranging from beginner to intermediate and going for as long as 14km. You’ll also find horse-back trails, mountain bike cross-country trails and above all, one the best fishing spots within the city limits. Buntzen Lake has a great beach and an off-leash area for dogs that is fully fenced in with it’s own private dog beach.

Surrounded by mountains, Buntzen Lake is as beautiful as they come.

And of course Max loves it too.

If you’re looking for a great spot to catch some trout, a perfect half-day hike or a great place to have fun with your furry friend then this is the place to check out. It’s only 30 mins East from downtown Vancouver but it feels like a world away.

Until next time. Happy adventures.
