UBC Botanical Garden is Canada's oldest continuously operating university botanical garden. The original mission of the garden was research into the native flora of British Columbia. Over the past nine decades, our mission has broadened to include research, conservation, teaching and public display of temperate plants from around the world, particularly Asian, alpine and native plants. Last year on VIA Kim Werker featured our wreath making course in one of her awesomely crafty DiYVR features and we wanted to let you know about it again this year. One thing that makes this course extra-special is that participants have access to a wide variety of plant material collected by our horticulturist directly from our botanical garden, and contributed from the backyards of many of our Friends of the Garden volunteers (who have some of the most spectacular plant collections in Vancouver). Every participant will come home with a beautiful, one of a kind, locally sourced treasure.

When: Saturday, November 26, 2011 | 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Location: UBC Botanical Garden Reception Centre, 6804 SW Marine Drive.

Cost: $60public, $55 garden members (includes students) plus HST and fees.

Register here (advanced registration required with a limited number of spaces so hurry if you want to come).

If you can’t make it to the workshop or prefer someone else do the work, unique wreaths, door swags and table centrepieces handmade by UBC Botanical Garden volunteers will be on sale at UBC Botanical Garden in our Shop in the Garden (located at 6804 SW Marine Drive, at the corner of Marine and W 16th Ave) starting November 23rd. The wreath sales raise funds to support the research, conservation, education and public outreach efforts of the non-profit garden.

We will also soon be announcing information about our annual Christmas tree recycling program that benefits local schools on our blog. Stay tuned.
