Bert Flinn Fun

UNPLUGGED is a state of mind.

UNPLUGGEDis a state of mind. It’s that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest.

The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting cooler, snow is here, but don't let that stop you from getting out and exploring. I wanted to share with you one of my favourite places to get out, take a hike or go for a good ride on your bike. Like most places I venture off too, I look for places where I can take my dog Max. Bert Flinn is the perfect place. Just north of Port Moody, on the cusp of Anmore you will find this great maze of wilderness trails to both hike and bike through amazing scenery.

I take Max there as often as I can, it is an off-leash area with lots of trails for him to explore as well. If you are an avid mountain biker than you will love it here also. There are tons of trails, ranging in skill, with nice wide trails and a mix of single track. It really is a great spot.

Heading up Ioco road you will come to a round-a-bout at the top of the hill. You will see the sign from the road and just simply park along the side. This is the entrance to Bert Flinn park. From here you take either the gravel access road and follow it along or venture off into the woods for some scenic trail adventures. Keep in mind that up here there are quite a few wildlife visitors as well. It's not uncommon to see black bears and deer wandering about so keep that in mind.

These pictures were taken last weekend when the weather was still nice. There is snow up there now so be prepared for it. I hope you like my funky treatment to my images courtesy of Instagram.

It is one of my favourite places to go and I highly suggest you check it out this weekend.

Until next time, happy adventures.
