DAILY FLICKR PICKR DAY 647

Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!) I'm a big fan of portraits that convey a sense of dignity and portray a stoic subject.

Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!)

I'm a big fan of portraits that convey a sense of dignity and portray a stoic subject. I'm also partial to the light that washes over the landscape during the Golden Hour - which is pretty early these short days of winter. So it's no surprise that I was attracted to the photograph you see below by Chris Gehlen - such a proud and photogenic subject, and the resulting portrait reveals something about the character of the sitter. Good stuff indeed.

Here is Bright and shiny 335 - 365. Only 30 more days Chris and you've gone the full cycle.

...and speaking of going the full cycle (in Chris' case, 1 photo a day for 365 days), I've almost posted for the cycle myself as the Daily Flickr Pickr - my first post was Day 349 way back on December 19th 2010. As my one-year anniversary in this capacity approaches, I should mention that while I've immensely enjoyed browsing the VIA Flickr Pool everyday and sharing images with you the reader, it would be selfish on my part to not relinquish my duties at some point and let someone else take the rewarding reigns of this column.

So if anyone out there wants to throw their hat in the ring, drop me a Flickrmail (you are on Flickr, right?) and let me know why you should be the next editor of the Daily Flickr Pickr. Interested parties should have a passion and enthusiasm - but need not be an expert on - photography, writing and above all, Vancouver! Because that's what this website is all about - Vancouver IS Awesome.
