Name & Occupation: Mina Shum, filmmaker

Daily Drawing Project: "Draw a plant in your house or backyard" (From Day 1 Daily Drawing)

What was the last thing you drew before this?

The last thing I drew before this was some shots for my internet short Hip Hop Mom (www.hiphopmomfilm.com)

Tell us a bit about your experience doing the Daily Drawing Project:

When I set down to draw these tulips, I was nervous. I am not a drawer, and can only draw enough to do stick figures as a very basic visual for my film images. So to do representational drawing was daunting. I found the experience extremely calming, meditative and gratifying. It made me see the beauty before me, and appreciate the fact that I can do things I don't think I can do.

Visit the Online Daily Drawing Project running May 9 - June 8 in the 31 days leading up to Vancouver Draw Down, an annual daylong celebration of drawing that offers 27 free drawing workshops at 18 locations around Vancouver.
