Last night CBC News Network launched the expansion of CBC News Now out of Vancouver! Airing at 5, 7, and 10 pm PST every weekday, the show is hosted by Ian Hanomansing and is the only news program that's live from Vancouver in primetime across the country. Along with injecting more of our city into this national news program it's expected to "increase CBC News Network's ability to cover late-breaking news from Western Canada and around the world." HERE is some more information about it.

To introduce us to this show as well as some other exciting changes happening in the newsroom at 700 Hamilton Street, CBC hosted myself and a group of other media for a lunch last week (sponsored and catered by Chef Claire's, yum!). They dubbed it as "speed dating" and the format had media given assigned seating at their tables while news personalities and producers played musical chairs between each course. I got to become acquainted with a wide range of folks as well as catch up with others like News Director, Wayne Williams, who was one of my first 50 Coffees. And of course I used the opportunity to harvest content for our High Fiving Celebrities series.

So please accept this high five from CBC News Now's very own Ian Hanomansing!

This high five actually marks a hat trick with Ian as we gave you a high five from him in June of 2009 at the Hockey Night In Canada 4 on 4 Hockey Tournament, then again in December of that same year when he was subbing in for Rick Cluff and interviewed me on the Early Edition. He was a little leery for the first one (LEFT - "You're not going to make me look stupid, are you?"), was on board with the second one (RIGHT) and during speed dating I had him vouching for me to the other hosts who might have been as leery of me as he was three years ago.

Something I admire about Ian - and I imagine it has a lot to do with him getting to the position he's at - is that he doesn't just read the news. He's incredibly thoughtful, is on top of his game and the news that affects us, and is pretty much the best person we could have representing Vancouver to the rest of the country at 5, 7 and 10 each night. High five!
