Here's the perfect thing for those of you looking to round out your Halloween weekend with a little culture: Cute to Kill III — the third installation of this short film and music performance event is happening this Sunday at VIVO Media Arts.

5 Japanese animated shorts and an electro glitch-pop set by Masahiro Takashi precede the special screening of Masami Hata's Ringing Bell:

A baby lamb named Chirin is devastated when his mother is killed by a wolf who raids the farm in the night. Seeking revenge, he must become like the very thing he wishes to destroy, and he must venture far beyond the safety his home and childhood into the wilderness to seek the fearsome Wolf King.

Allegorical bildungsroman for youth entering adulthood in our times? A commentary on the effects of globalisation on modern self-hood? Come find out. Innocent, cute, dark, violent, Cute to Kill III is co-curated by Yuriko Iga (the director of Blim) and Daniel Giantomaso  (a Vancouver-based artist), highlighting the long-running theme of innocence amidst violence prevalent throughout the history of Japanese pop culture.  This is going to be a lot of fun. Get your tickets ahead to avoid disappointment.
